Haiti is struggling to recover from Hurricane Matthew. The storm is blamed for at least 1,000 reported deaths in the Caribbean nation. Nearly 1.5 million people need help, and a lack of clean water is spreading cholera.
In the south part of Haiti, Aux Coteaux, Hurricane Matthew literally destroyed all major infrastructure work and buildings in the city and surrounding districts, leaving more than 70% of the 70,000+ population of the Commune of Coteaux in dire straits. Funds are urgently needed to buy materials and equipments to rebuild this Hotel. There is no insurance fund, bank loan or government assistance where any small business can count on after such a devastating blow in this country.
Hotel Somando had played an important part in the development of Coteaux. It had provided more than 50 jobs to the locals. Also it is a place where all the NGOs doing business in this part of the country stayed.
Helping us rebuilt this hotel will not only help us providing decent jobs to more than 40 and more people in the town but also providing a pathway to accommodate all the NGOs that will be coming to this part of town to provide relief assistance to the population. Although we are a private business but our services and accommodation we provide to the community make us an important partner in the rebuilding efforts of Coteaux.
